Brian Peterson, staff photographer, The Star Tribune. Peterson has worked as a staff photographer at the Star Tribune since 1987. Between the years 1984 and 1997, he was named Minnesota Press Photographer of the Year eight times, and in 1996 he won POY's Canon Photo Essay award. While at the Star Tribune, Peterson has photographed a variety of professional sports events as well as stories about the Minnesota River, floods in the upper-Midwest, the Simon family's battle with AIDS, urban issues, Russia after the revolution and the Alaskan oil spill. Peterson's achievements include the National Sigma Delta Chi Award for Photojournalism, the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism, the Gordon Parks Photojournalism Award, the Robert F. Kennedy Award for Photojournalism, and the Humanitarian and Sweepstakes awards from the Associated Press. Peterson lives with his wife Lori and his daughters Sarah, 12, Alyssa, 10, and Natalie, 6.
