Angus McDougall Recognition Dinner

Mac taught hundreds of students at MU, and also served as director of POY. His contribution to the careers of photographers, picture editors and to the lives of all of his students is tremendous. The Angus McDougall Recognition Dinner is an opportunity to renew acquaintances and to praise and roast Mac.

With strong support from his wife, Betty, Mac has given enormously to journalism. His “Visual Impact in Print” is still regarded as the premier picture editing text. He donated the proceeds of his next two books, “Picture Editing and Layout” and “A Photo Journal, from the glory days of the Milwaukee Journal,” to the Photojournalism Sequence. The Missouri Rivertown book series was funded by Mac’s donation of a cash prize he received for his outstanding teaching. Now is our chance to thank Mac and to help ensure the legacy he has helped to author.

Silent Print Auction

Photographs made by you – from your photojournalism career or from your days at MU – will be used in a silent auction to benefit the POYi Endowment Drive.
Prints: 8" x 10", 11" x 14" or 16" x 20" will be accepted. We prefer prints in excellent or new condition, dry mounted and/or matted. Prints may be silver or archival digital. Prints need not be framed. If it is your print, a signed print is preferred. If it is a print by another photographer which you are donating, please provide any documentation which you may have available.

POYi Endowment Fund

Since its beginning as the "First Annual Fifty Print Exhibition of Spot News and Feature Pictures" in 1944, POYi has relied on the generosity of sponsors to help fund the contest and educational programs and exhibits.

This approach worked relatively well for many years, but as POYi has grown and the needs of corporate partners have changed, the one- and two-year commitments from those partners have become increasingly challenging. This prompted the search for a permanent solution. In response, POYi and the University of Missouri-Columbia created the POYi Endowment. Now the challenge is to fund an endowment of $5 million to make POYi financially sound not only for next year but in perpetuity. We need your energy and good ideas to make this happen.

Pictures of the Year International has inspired and educated photographers across the globe for six decades; its contest has recognized excellence in photojournalism by honoring the photographers, editors and their institutions of employment, and it has preserved a visual archive of our shared history. POYi now asks its friends to provide the essential financial support to continue its mission.
