60th Annual POYi Awards Ceremony Returns to Columbia for
a "Bring It Home" Weekend
February 2003
Dear Friends,
For the past decade, the POY awards ceremony has been held in
Washington, D.C. This year we are "bringing it home" to where it
all started 60 years ago. We want to invite you to do just that
this April during a gala "Bring It Home"
weekend saluting the 60th annual Pictures of the Year awards ceremony
in concert with a McDougall Recognition Dinner and Silent Print
Auction fundraising event.
Please mark April 24, 25 and 26 on your calendar and plan to join
us as we celebrate 60 years of POY and to honor and recognize Mac
for his contributions to photojournalism education.
Highlights of the weekend:
Thursday, April 24 Kick off the weekend with a POYi Winners Reception for
this year’s winners, alumni and past winners in the rotunda of Lee
Hills Hall, home of the photojournalism sequence and the Columbia
Missourian.
Friday, April 25 Attend POYi Education Day, featuring presentations
by the major winners from this year’s POYi, a panel discussion addressing
current issues in photojournalism and a retrospective presentation
of work from the POYi Archive. Then, join in the festivities at
the Angus McDougall Recognition Dinner and Roast at the Reynolds
Alumni Center. Proceeds from a Silent Print Auction will benefit
the POYi Endowment Fund.
Saturday, April 26 Join Dean Mills, Dean of the School of Journalism,
for a discussion about the future of POYi, tour the J-School and/or
take the opportunity to look at student portfolios in the morning.
In the afternoon, join us for a Boone County Pig Roast.
