"Trapped"

"Journey to Nowhere" Villagers from the Abdulgan region attempt to walk to find help which lies at teh end of a week's journey to a refugee camp or to the Iranian border several weeks away. Many die en route. Thousands of Hazara people are trapped high in the Mushkel-Hal mountains in the Abdulgan region of northern Afghanistan. In the village of Bini Gaw, as well as the other some 60 villages in the region, half the population fled in search of food after the fall of the Taliban. The rest were too weak to make the journey. Half of them had already died of starvation by December of 2001.
