"Iraq"

10 of 10

Iraqi policemen from a special investigative unit search and apprehend Iraqi fedayeen fighters, September 28, 2003, at a house in a rural area north of Baghdad. A total of 11 fedayeen were captured in two nearby locations. Police claim this man is the "most dangerous" of the group of 11. US Army Military Police vehicles accompanied the Iraqi Police on the raid. At the end of the two raids, the prisoners were handed over to the Americans. This point unnerves and frustrates the fledgling Iraqi Police force. The chief Iraqi Police officer who heads the investigative units says they use Iraqi techniques to get information from the criminals and terrorists. Now, criminals and terrorists know that in front of an Iraqi judge, if they claim torture or unnecessary force was used during interrogations, they can often be freed. Iraqis claim the American influence hampers traditional Iraqi police methods.
