"The New Europe - The Roma"

2 of 10

In village of Trebisov, hundreds of Roma live in old delapidated housing complexes. Their days are spent trying to earn enough money to feed and clothe their children. On the first of May, 2004, the face of Europe changed considerably. Ten new countries were added to the European Union and many brought with them a set of social issues that suddenly became a continental problem. In tiny villages across Slovakia, Romas live in filthy slums and absolute poverty. Isolated and excluded from the rest of society, they are now EU citizens with out social security, access to education, health care and they that lack even the right to vote.
