"AMERICA IMMIGRATION"

With the prospect of national immigration reform as remote as ever, individual states across the United States enacted stricter laws to drive away undocumented workers. In Arizona and Colorado, such state laws created what has been called a "climate of fear" in the Latino community, and the U.S. Federal Government has deported an increasing number of illegal immigrants. In addition, President Obama deployed more than 1,000 soldiers on the Mexican border to assist U.S. Border Patrol agents. Regardless, immigrants continue to make the dangerous jouney through the desert to reach the United States to fill jobs that Americans refuse to do themselves.

Undocumented Mexican immigrants walk through the Sonoran Desert after illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border border on January 19, 2011 into the Tohono O'odham Nation, Arizona. The immigrants said they had wandered the desert lost for a week after crossing from Mexico into the vast Indian reservation at night. Exhausted, they requested the Border Patrol to pick them up and take them to the U.S.-Mexico border, from where they would return to their homes in the Mexican state of Sonora.
