"Stepping Towards Hope"
Caregivers' days are long and hard when living with a spinal cord patient, as Karen Gorden helps Mackenzie into the car for their long drive back to Iowa from Craig Hospital. "But no matter how bad I feel about my situation, I know hers is worse," Karen said. "I've never seen her fall apart or say, 'Why me?'" In the summer of 2013, Mackenzie used her sister's upcoming wedding as more motivation to power through the rugged exercises, as she meant to walk down the aisle as much as possible under her own power.
