Tiger killing by heavily-armed poachers has grown so widespread that some countries, including India and Thailand, now use commando forces to protect reserves. Here, Thailand’s Smart Patrol Ranger recruits being taught firearms skills in Hua Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, part of their training by the Thai police and military. In September 2011, smart Patrol rangers nabbed a tiger poacher who had photographs on his cell phone of 10 tigers he had killed in the sanctuary. He is currently in prison.
