POYi Archive Exhibit
Opens at St. Louis'
Sheldon Art Gallery

The Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries will host the 50-print POYi Archive Exhibition for an extended three-month showing in St. Louis.

This special presentation of the most evocative photography ever recorded will open at The Sheldon with a gala reception and live multimedia concert on Friday, Oct. 3. Following the opening, the exhibit will be on continuous display at the gallery through Jan. 10.

The Sheldon is a cultural institution located in the heart of St. Louis' Grand Center arts district. The historic Sheldon Concert Hall and the Sheldon Art Galleries offer Mid-America with a wealth of cultural resources that includes music, visual arts, and educational programs.

POYi created the framed print exhibition from its 65-year collection of more than 38,000 images in the POYi Archive.  The POYi Archive displays the most iconic images of our time including, the fall of the Berlin Wall; the 1963 photograph of Lee Harvey Oswald as he is shot by Jack Ruby; student confrontations in the 1960s; segregation in the South; the U.S. Presidency; and the space program among others.
The exhibition is curated by Patricia O'Connor, a veteran gallery professional currently working for the New York State Council on the Arts and the Tri-County Arts Council, and toured by ExhibitsUSA.

Paul Reuter’s musical composition, “Telling the Story: Fair and True,” was commissioned by the Missouri School of Journalism to mark the school’s centennial. The piece will be performed by the University City Symphony Orchestra and will incorporate photographs from the Pictures of the Year International archives in a multimedia presentation.

Join us to celebrate the opening on Friday, Oct. 3. The opening reception will be held in the Nancy Spirtas Kranzberg Gallery at The Sheldon between 5 and 7 p.m. with complimentary drinks and hor d’oeuvres. Then at 8 p.m. inside The Sheldon Concert Hall, “Telling the Story: Fair and True” will be preformed live.

The Sheldon is located at 3648 Washington Boulevard, St. Louis, 314-533-9900. Tickets are $15 orchestra and $10 balcony.  More information may be found on these Sheldon Web sites:
