Cheryl Cook has a heart condition and when her heart
beats rapidly she wants everyone around her to feel how hard it beats. She
and Joe Smith have lived across the street from each other on Desire Street
for several years and now that they're dealing with at least 4 feet of water
coming up to their front porches after Hurricane Katrina, Cheryl has been
wading over to make red beans and rice for Joe and their friends. The group
has banded together on Desire Street and vows they won't be forced out of their
homes.
