"WOUNDED MESSENGERS"

2 of 40

"AMERICA" Memunatu Mansaray is carried by Rotary Club member Joe Mandarino during a protest in NYC against 'conflict diamonds' as Bintu Amara stands on her crutch. Rep. Tony P. Hall joined human-rights activists and victims of Sierra Leone's diamond wars for a protest highlighting the role American consumers are unwittingly playing in funding some African wars. They marched to Cartier Jewelers on 5th Avenue to demonstrate and hand out leaflets aimed at educating consumers about this blood trade. Memuna lost her arm when bullets exploded through her, killing her grandmother and fatally wounding her mother. (Joe Mandarino recently passed away from a brain tumor)
